[SOLD OUT! NEXT BATCH OF GRAND REWARD DUE TO COME TO MATURITY IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2024]

Grand Reward is the culmination of years of innovation and experimentation. Driven by a want to create a whisky that truly represents Australia and its people, we looked to Kelly Country for inspiration. A large part of the Ned Kelly and Kelly Gang story took place in the north east Victorian highlands, between towns like Beechworth, Glenrowan and across the border in Jerilderie. It's from within this area that we source the barrels that make our utterly unique whisky.

THE WHISKY

This whisky utilises a very carefully hand-picked parcel of NED Australian Whisky barrels which are selected for their quality and complexity. They are then further matured in ex-Tawny casks until the vanilla, caramel and chocolate of the whisky and the dried fruits, Christmas cask and red berry notes of the cask are perfectly integrated.

Bottled at 50% - or 100 Proof on the American scale - we retain the power of the whisky and highlight the elegance of the sweetness. An iron fist in a velvet glove, a whisky to sip and savour.

We source our Tawny barrels from the Rutherglen region, Victorian high country that was well travelled by Ned Kelly and the Kelly Gang. With diverse geography and abounding natural beauty, it in this same hills and flats of Kelly Country that these barrels once matured tawny fortified wine. Made in a similar style that Portugal's region-protected Port is made, the tawny produced here is rich and sweet, typically with notes of dried fruits, nuts, spice and toffee. After soaking into the barrel, our whisky draws this sweet fruitiness out of the wood and onto itself.

We believe it to be unique in Australia as a corn mash-bill whisky part or wholly matured in ex-Tawny casks, released as an ongoing concern.

GRAND REWARD
TASTING NOTES

Aroma: Rich and luxurious nose of ripe red berries, dried figs, creme caramel and milk chocolate. The luscious sweetness sits above gentle cereal notes which emerge with time in the glass.

Palate: A very silky texture, this glides onto the tongue and then coats the mouth. Raspberry, figs, raisin and almonds leading to forest floor, fruit-and-nut chocolate with a gentle spice providing structure.

Finish: Red berries and sweet nutty notes return, with a subtle backbone of cracked pepper and cereal notes.

Distillers' Comments: A dance of tawny sweetness and classic NED notes. Rarely does corn whisky receive a tawny cask finish and this is a very unique experience, the brightness of the spirit has given the sweetness of the cask a vibrant dexterity. The nose is a showstopper and the palate is very soft for 50%, the cereal notes of the whisky maintaining a structure and length that's both satisfying and moreish.

SILVER MEDAL

World Whiskies Awards 2024

"NED at a higher ABV definitely sings, and there's a lot to like here... the tawny finish has been really well managed - it's not overbearing in the slightest."
