NOSE: Caramel, dried apricot and clove, followed by butter melted onto shortbread, with a lingering cigar box and pepper aroma.
PALATE: Full-bodied with a bright grain texture, brown sugar and toffee elements are balanced by orange blossom and vanilla.
FINISH: Long and lingering, cigar box and oak elements give way to melted butter and heather.
COMMENTS: A wonderful addition to the Bathurst series, the Sound Ageing process adds a complexity in the interaction between the sweet caramel and oak notes. There's definitely NED DNA in here, but it's one of the more austere and refined releases.
Produced from NED's unique Sounds Of Bathurst process, where barrels are extra aged to the engine noise of V8 Supercars charging around Bathurst.
Drop Of The Gods is the fourth in the series of Sounds Of Bathurst series, which has previous won multiple Gold Medals for taste and quality.
HOW DOES THE SOUND AGEING WORK?
Hand-selected reserve grade barrels of NED Whisky were aged within a custom-built, sound-proof container at our Melbourne distillery. Powerful speakers play the distinct in-car audio of Supercars roaring around Bathurst, ensuring the sounds deeply permeated the barrels.
Our Sound Ageing projects have revealed that this unique technique enhances and highlights dark toffee and burnt maple flavours, addinggreater depth of texture to the whisky. The Drop of the Gods Edition is a testament to this meticulous and groundbreaking process.
