2023 LIMITED EDITION BATHURST WHISKY
For the first time we’re excited to reveal “Start Line”, a premium NED Australian Whisky released for the 60th anniversary of the Bathurst 1000.
NED’s famous Sounds of Bathurst whiskies involve sound ageing reserve-grade barrels of NED to the sounds of Supercars racing around Bathurst, the intense engine roar energy enhancing the maturation process. Start Line gives us on opportunity to showcase exactly what that process does.
For the 2023 Sounds Of Bathurst edition we hand-picked seven NED Whisky barrels and blended them together, refilling the premium creation back into the barrels. Six of the barrels were placed in our custom sound aging container while one barrel was left to mature in the warehouse – the same whisky matured with sound aging and without.
The result are two distinctly different whiskies, a perfect accompaniment of history and innovation to celebrate the 60th anniversary Bathurst event.
The Sound Ageing process is unique to NED Whisky and creates a flavour profile distinct to the technique. Over three years of Sound Ageing projects we’ve discovered that dark toffee and burnt maple flavours are enhanced and highlighted with a greater depth of texture in whiskies that undergo the process.
START LINE IS AVAILABLE IN A TWIN-PACK WITH EITHER THE RETRO OR INNOVATION SOUND AGED WHISKIES.
START LINE TASTING NOTES:
Aroma: Caramel and vanilla on the nose, with loads of crème caramel and almost custard. There is subtle fruit, peaches, and almond.
Palate: Oak, white chocolate, caramel and vanilla leaning into macadamia.
Finish: Long with plenty of sweet oak.
RETRO & INNOVATION TASTING NOTES:
Aroma: Butter pastry, complex caramel and extra oak, rich oak and maple.
Palate: Rich oak, huge length, loads of butter, pastry, caramel and dried fruit. Smooth mouthfeel, loads of length, then oak and caramilk chocolate. The flavours feel enhanced and boosted.
Finish: Very long, lots of smooth texture and clean finish.
